Donation for Health

DONATE MEDS, SAVE LIVES

Overview

Every year, medications worth 500 million shekels go to waste, while some patients struggle to afford their necessary medicines. To address this issue, “Friends for Health”, an organization, has stepped in to supply medications to those in need.

The Challenge

The challenge lies in streamlining the medication donation process, which currently faces limitations hindering the organization’s expansion and minimizing medication wastage.

Why is this happening?

01
A high volume of daily inquiries.

02

Expiry of some donated medications.

03

Enhancing the user base of the service.

The Solution

We’ve developed a user-friendly online platform to assist donors in finding the nearest medication delivery center or arranging for a courier pickup in certain cases.

What can we do?

01
Simplify and streamline the donation process.

02

Centralize inquiry management.

03

Prioritize inquiries based on their significance.

The existing approach to medication transfer

Assumptions:

01
Optimizing data collection from donors will enhance the conversion rate from face-to-face interactions to actual donations.

02

It will reduce the team’s response time to inquiries.

03

The organization will have a greater capacity to collect a wider range of medications, including general, costly, and uncommon drugs.

Demographics and the number of people served:

  • The organization aids approximately 7,000 individuals monthly.
  • Monthly donations comprise over 80,000 medications.
  • The team includes approximately 600 staff members and volunteer

Impact:

  • The organization will benefit from an increased medication supply.
  • Potential donors will find the donation process more convenient.
  • Volunteers and staff will experience improved resource allocation, leading to time savings.

Discovery & Resarch

Organizations providing medication are crucial in addressing healthcare disparities by supplying essential medicines to underserved communities.
I conducted a comparative analysis of four prominent medicine charity organizations in the US: SIRUM, Charitable Pharmacy, SafeNetRX, and Project Cure.
From my research, it became evident that most organizations primarily accept medication donations from healthcare institutions and pharmacies rather than individual donors. However, they do welcome contributions from private individuals.
To donate medicines, individuals are typically required to complete a form that includes specific details such as the quantity of medicines, expiration dates, and storage conditions. The form-filling process can be cumbersome for users, potentially leading to abandonment.

According to Nielsen Norman Group, lengthy forms can appear intimidating, causing users to overestimate the effort required to complete them. In reality, users may spend less cognitive effort than anticipated, with much of the form’s information being irrelevant, requiring users to sift through it.

What are the requirements of the organization?

Through visits to the organization’s donation center, staff interviews, and procedure observations, we identified key challenges that impact resource allocation. One crucial question that arises is whether to dispatch a courier to collect medication donations or direct individuals to a delivery center?
The criteria that affect user routing:
  • According to “Friends for Health”, a costly drug refers to a medication with a price over 1,000 NIS.
  • An uncommon drug is identified by its demand and limited availability in the market.
